There's not much I won't do for a better complexion.

Sign me up for skin needling, LED light therapy, the odd chemical peel and, most recently, face oils.

I was always apprehensive about my skin's compatibility with oil. An experience using coconut oil on my face led to breakouts which led to believing all oils would clog my pores and transport me back to painful adolescent years.

Then Foile came along and restored my faith.

Foile founders Alexandra Grima and Su Tuttle launched the brand with a modest range: a handful of nourishing, multi-use oils that could fulfil a principal part of any skincare routine. Though they now offer other formulated products, the classic oils – jojoba, marula and hemp oil – have remained a staple part of Foile’s identity.

I eased back into this oily world with the Marula Face Oil. It’s suitable for all skin types and is high in antioxidants and essential fatty acids 6 and 9, ingredients that hydrate and nourish the skin while helping to protect it against environmental aggressors. It’s also non-comedogenic, so doesn't clog pores.

I had a great experience with the marula oil. My skin felt softer and smoother and appeared more hydrated. Though I can’t speak for people who have oily, combination or acne-prone skin, as my ordeal with coconut oil proved, I’m not immune to breakouts. Thankfully, I can report there were no unwanted facial flare-ups after using this oil.

Emboldened by my skin's reaction to the marula oil, once that bottle ran out, I refilled (yes, those beautiful Foile bottles are refillable) with the Hemp Face Oil.

Hemp seed oil has high levels of omega fatty acids 3, 6 and 9, vitamin E and amino acids. These help in the natural repair of the skin’s barrier, making it better at retaining moisture. Hemp oil is suitable for combination skin and can also help reduce redness.

I couldn't fault this product either. It felt a little lighter than the marula oil, but seemed on par in terms of moisture retention. So a tick for both.

If you have oily skin and are wondering where all of this leaves you, Foile’s Jojoba Face Oil could be the one. Packed full of vitamins A, D and E, plus antioxidants and essential fatty acids, jojoba oil is great for nourishing and restoring balance to the skin. It’s naturally antibacterial and anti-inflammatory, so it can help calm the skin too.

I bought this for my sister, who has oily/combination skin, and she loved it. (She’s remained breakout-free, too.)

My final verdict is simple: face oil deserves a permanent place in my skincare routine. What's more, with Foile's Classics, I get to enjoy the benefits of a quality product, with a refillable and low waste option. Hard to argue with that.
