RIISE is here to change how we think and talk about climate change by bringing beauty, optimism and fun to the conversation. RIISE was born out of the observation that fear, guilt and shame are not effective motivators to solve climate change. At RIISE, we understand why environmentalists feel the need to present climate change in dire terms and we do not seek to diminish the enormous risks posed by our changing climate. But we recognise this approach is not effective. These emotions keep people feeling overwhelmed and helpless, rather than inspiring them to take action. Without minimising the very real and serious risks that climate change imminently poses, we think the discussion is missing one key component: hope. We want to present sustainable lifestyles and environmentally-friendly products as both desirable and attainable. Living a life that’s in sync with the planet can be just as luxurious. At RIISE, we talk hopefully and constructively about the things you can do and can buy to make a difference. Our focus is on actions that deliver a win-win where there is something in it for you and our planet.

WHAT IS RIISE? 1/4
An e-commerce platform and physical retail store that curates fashion, beauty and lifestyle products - each of which has been individually vetted for its environmental impact according to our rigorous internal sustainability parameters; and
A film and TV production studio that develops entertaining series and features that leverage emotive storytelling to show beautiful and desirable climate-friendly lifestyles.
OUR PHILOSOPHY 2/4
At RIISE we understand that we are all motivated by desire. We buy things because we want them, not because they are good for the planet. We see this reality as a creative challenge; we reposition environmentally-friendly products and lifestyles as the new objects of desire.
At scale, this will build global economies that are sympathetic to the future of our planet. Driving money towards the brands and businesses taking accountability for their environmental impact will move the needle on climate change in a way that politics and policy hasn’t. We see both the positive and the negative aspects of current global economic systems. As pragmatists, we ar eworking within the existing systems creating demand for products that will reduce the impact of climate change. We do not pretend that this approach doesn’t have flaws but we believe it is the approach most likely to succeed in the short and medium term.
On our e-commerce platform, each item has been individually vetted to ensure it meets our vision for a decarbonised, circular and regenerative future. We’re comfortable selling a product from a brand that isn’t typically seen as sustainable, so long as the product itself meets our sustainability criteria. We do this because we believe that if people buy these products, it will encourage brands to make more products with the planet in mind. Every item or product you find on RIISE has been assessed for its sustainability merit across three categories: raw materials, supply chain and end of life. Our elevated aesthetic inspires people to want to live a life that protects our planet.
Our hope is not blind. We believe that climate change can be solved through creativity, ingenuity and igniting our collective power. Throughout history, trailblazing people have achieved the impossible–from space expeditions to curing diseases. These are proof points that together we can find a solution to the most pressing issue of our time: climate change.
The climate space has become polarised and entrenched in politics. But we don’t believe that climate change is political; it’s personal. We all want to live happy lives in safety surrounded by the people we love. For RIISE, this is the essence of our collective motivation to solve climate change.
At RIISE, our starting point is to cultivate a space where the brands pioneering beautiful, innovative and sustainable products win. Through optimism, we want to inspire living in a way that contributes to a better future. We invite people in and create a space where there is a strong emphasis on individuality and self-personal expression. On our e-commerce platform we encourage people to embrace their unique styles and perspectives. There are multiple ways we can move forward if we are propelled by joy, not fear; when we feel optimistic and hopeful about our futures. We don’t tell, we show. We show that our individual actions are powerful and our efforts combined will create real change. At RIISE we empower people to see that their daily actions, rituals and habits have a ripple effect on others and the world at large.
The approach that environmentalists have adopted of terrifying, guilting and shaming people has had the detrimental consequence of fuelling a backlash.When people feel judged and helpless, they do not take action. This is not helpful. At RIISE, we very consciously do not empower a backlash. We want to reframe the sustainability discussion and make it accessible and appealing. By focusing positively on what people can do and highlighting the brands who are innovating in this space, we will encourage a global shift.
HOW FILM & TV FITS WITH E-COMMERCE 3/4
Film and television possess a singular ability to transport audiences – by building entire worlds that evoke emotion, spark imagination, and shape desire. A single outfit can tell a story before a word is spoken; a meticulously designed set can tell who a character is, how they live, what their inner world is like. This immersive power doesn’t just entertain – it influences how we feel, what we aspire to, and what we buy. World-building in film and TV isn't just background; it's emotional architecture, quietly guiding audience perception and longing with every frame.
Our film and TV projects are anchored in sustainability, but we do not explicitly label them as such. We lead with story; emotive plotlines, richly drawn characters and beautiful wardrobe and set design. Our research indicates that polarisation has resulted in some audiences rejecting ‘sustainable’ content because they have a preconceived idea it will be didactic. In our film and TV projects we create stories so compelling, so visually arresting, that their sustainable foundations feel natural and authentic. Something to be discovered, not declared.
Film and TV is shaping real-world purchasing decisions. We organically embed sustainable products into our screen projects. Sustainable fashion is uniquely suited to on-screen storytelling as it isn’t bound to fleeting trends or seasonal drops – instead, it offers core collections that remain timeless and available year after year. This means buying inspiration can be effective for years to come, with pieces audiences can discover, fall in love with, and purchase long after a show airs. We revel in the opportunity this presents. Our wardrobe and set design is always crafted with meticulous attention to detail, true to each character and their environment – but we do it with sustainable and vintage fashion. Our sets use sustainable materials and products, but just like all set departments we build what is required for the world we are creating. We see this not just as an opportunity—but as a creative advantage we’re proud to embrace.
WIN-WIN SITUATIONS 4/4
Actions that make people feel great and have a positive effect on our planet are win -win situations. The person is experiencing an immediate reward from their actions and our planet is also benefiting. We look for and hero these types of actions. This approach translates to the daily decisions that make up our lives: sitting down in a café to drink a coffee because it’s more enjoyable then drinking a takeaway on the run; taking the train instead of driving because you can read a book on the way to work; walking to work because the weather is inviting; investing in clothing you truly love and wear for years to come. There’s no need to mention the alternatives that are harmful to the environment. We celebrate positive actions because they encourages more positive actions.
What are we trying to achieve? It comes back to our motivation: we want to live happy lives in safety and we want that for everyone on this beautiful planet. This will require us to buy products that are made with the planet in mind, ultimately creating a world where manufacturers will find it impossible to continue producing in a detrimental way because we all demand better. Finding a solution to climate change is not only achievable, but can be beautiful, fun and exciting along the way. This is the RIISE way.
