It Starts With You
This is not a traditional self-help book, nor is it simply a memoir. It sits somewhere in between—a deeply personal account of transformation, paired with a practical methodology you can apply to your own life.
At the centre of the book is a simple but powerful idea: the voice in your head can be changed. More than that, it can become the one you’ve always needed.
For much of my life, I moved through the world reacting—to situations, to people, to my own thoughts. That reactivity shaped my decisions, my relationships, and ultimately my sense of self. Changing that required more than awareness. It required learning how to actively guide my inner dialogue.
What emerged was a process I now think of as re-reparenting: consciously creating an internal voice that is steady, compassionate, and clear. A voice that doesn’t criticise or overwhelm, but instead offers direction, accountability, and support—especially in the moments it matters most.
Some of you may know my background in challenging external systems. This work draws on that same instinct—but turns it inward. Because the most powerful system we will ever reshape is the one within ourselves.
This book is for anyone who has felt stuck in patterns of overthinking, anxiety, or self-doubt. It’s for those who sense that change is possible, but haven’t yet found a way to make it consistent or lasting.

Sara Bell grew up in Sweden until the age of 11 and later moved to Australia at 21, where she now lives. After becoming a mother, she began the process of re-parenting herself - breaking cycles of generational trauma and becoming the parent, and person, she had always envisioned. This book traces both her personal journey and the original, groundbreaking methodology she developed to guide that transformation. Sara is the CEO of RIISE, a global marketplace curating a considered edit of sustainable fashion and beauty, as well as RIISE Productions, a film and television production company. Across each RIISE project, she serves as Executive Producer and is closely involved in costume design. Prior to founding RIISE, Sara established Tempus Energy in 2012, a technology and electricity supply company. During her time there, she spent four years legally challenging fossil fuel subsidies worth billions in the European Courts - a case she ultimately won in 2018. While the victory marked a significant career milestone, enforcing the judgement proved complex. The experience underscored for Sara the urgency of the climate crisis, and the need to harness every creative force available to accelerate the transition to a cleaner world.

RIISE was born out of the observation that fear, guilt and shame are not effective motivators to solve climate change. At RIISE, we understand why environmentalists feel the need to present climate change in dire terms and we do not seek to diminish the enormous risks posed by our changing climate. But we recognise this approach is not effective. These emotions keep people feeling overwhelmed and helpless, rather than inspiring them to take action. Without minimising the very real and serious risks that climate change imminently poses, we think the discussion is missing one key component: hope. We want to present sustainable lifestyles and environmentally-friendly products as both desirable and attainable. Living a life that’s in sync with the planet can be just as luxurious. At RIISE, we talk hopefully and constructively about the things you can do and can buy to make a difference. Our focus is on actions that deliver a win-win where there is something in it for you and our planet.
