Bordered by crystal clear blue waters, Song Saa is a private island in Cambodia like no other. Located on the archipelago of Koh Rong, this five-star resort has a deep commitment to conservation and regenerative travel practices.

As our speedboat zoomed towards Song Saa Private Island, my pulse quickened – not just from the thrill of the ride but from the sight of the friendly staff waving us in, their smiles as warm as the island sun. Approaching the island there’s nothing but Koh Rong insight; an instant feeling of escapism and tranquillity sets the tone for your stay.

Encased in a lush canopy of tropical foliage, with dappled sunlight and the melodic calls of Hornbills, the island is escapism at its finest. Arriving at our villa, we were met with a delightful welcome: lotus flowers and champagne. Our villa was a luxurious sanctuary with a nod to traditional Cambodian architecture. Inside, natural textures reigned supreme: burnished teak timber floors and stacked stone walls seamlessly blended comfort with nature. The water-view villa invited us outdoors with its crescent-shaped private pool and dining area, all just steps from our four-poster king sized bed swathed in breezy white linen.

The villa's endless ocean views, the gentle hum of fishing boats, and jaw-dropping sunrises made it a standout. Yet, Song Saa Private Island is so much more than its stunning accommodations; it’s a movement that must be experienced.

Every aspect of the island pulses with intention. Here, luxury meets sustainability. The Song Saa Foundation drives this ethos, weaving regenerative initiatives into the fabric of the island. From marine preservation, coral farming, and wildlife protection to clearing plastic, and responsible recycling, the foundation’s work is awe-inspiring. They source materials from local communities and provide medical assistance to neighbouring Koh Rong.

A standout experience was joining a tour of the local community, free to all resort guests, to gain more of an understanding about the Song Saa Foundation and the work they do. Our tour guide lived in the village and was a pillar of the close-knit community. Witnessing him speak passionately about how the Song Saa Foundation is impacting the local community was touching. We met the woman who makes the thatching for all the Song Saa villa roofs, and the women who make the bamboo straws for the drinks on the island.
