As we begin to embrace the colder season, we also welcome the opportunity to lean into a good book and make a dent in our ever-growing reading lists. We have worked with To Be Read to curate a short but very sweet list of books to keep you warm through winter.

After meeting in high school and reconnecting at university, Pia and Eva began To Be Read a little under two years ago. The timing couldn’t be more perfect as we find ourselves in a loneliness epidemic with a deep need for spaces to nurture connections, make friends and be social. Hosting book clubs, book swaps, dinners, author talks, pilates and more, Pia and Eva have encouraged people to be themselves and foster long-lasting, real friendships with like-minded people.

We have worked with To Be Read to curate a short but very sweet list of books to keep you warm through winter. From Pia and Eva; We have selected a couple of books each which are not only our favourites but books we come back to time and time again. From fiction, to memoirs to non-fiction and many more we hope you can make the most of this winter with our To Be Read list.

Just Friends, Gyan Yankovic

"We’re going to start with one of our favourite book club pics to date! Discussing the joy, power and influence of friends, this well-researched, thoughtful and warm book is a reminder of how valuable all kinds of friendship are. This book is a must-read not only for yourself but for every friend in your life."

Evenings and Weekends, Oisin McKenna

"In this fast-paced book we read about a multitude of people and who are intrinsically linked, we follow them around their chaotic weekend in London. Through unique perspectives and experiences you see how relationships and connections are put to the test and tensions rise as the weekend progresses."

Mother Tongue, Naima Brown

"This book is an absurd, page-turning rollercoaster that’s equal parts fun and thought-provoking. I highly recommend it if you’re after a good time and a sharp character study on modern motherhood, American political extremism, and what it means to start over."

All I Ever Wanted To Be Was Hot, Lucinda Price (aka Froomes)

"Everyone must read this book! Lucinda Price’s narrative voice has to be one of my favourites to date, being relatable and honest. Not only did I learn a lot about myself, but also about society, about living as a woman in early 2000s Australia. This book perfectly balances seriousness and sensitivity with perfect pop culture references"

Reservoir Bitches, Dahlia De La Cerda

"This collection of short stories tackles themes of feminism and women’s rights, centred around the female experience in Mexico. The themes in this novel are substantial, with a vital message told unapologetically. If you’re looking for a short and intriguing read, this is the perfect book to get you out of a reading slump."

How To Dodge Flying Sandals by Daniel Nour

"This is an exciting, heartwarming and chaotic debut memoir sharing the experience of growing up ‘not-normal’ in suburban Sydney. Daniels' voice is funny, relatable and captures the awkwardness of growing up and figuring out your identity while others tell you what it is. “This is a sharply funny tale of culture, family and trying, but not always managing, to come of age.” - Simon and Schuster"

Outline, Rachel Cusk

"This was our April Book Club read, and the consensus from the club was resounding love for it. Set against a picturesque Greek summer, we follow a writer through 10 conversations with strangers on her journey. This was a beautiful reflective novel that will make you feel like you're basking in the Mediterranean sunshine too."

Gold Rush, Olivia Petter

"Working as a publicist for an A-list magazine, Rose unexpectedly spends the night with the most famous heart-throb in Hollywood, but when she can’t remember what happened that night, she is plunged into the murky water of consent, celebrity culture and the power we give them to wield. I highly recommend it if you're looking for a novel with a great plot that explores the modern nuance of influence, social media and agency."
