I am 100 per cent convinced that these lyrics from Beyoncé’s R&B anthem ‘Love on top’ were written about the most precious thing in my life. We only met recently, but ours is a true soul connection – they rarely leave my side, light up any room and make me feel instantly put together even when I’m five coffees deep and up against a deadline.
I’m not talking about a romantic partner – I’m talking about my Little Chubbie Hoops. A truly remarkable accessory that I plan to wear for the rest of my life (and serenade regularly with help from Queen B).
Hoops are the jewellery equivalent to the perfect pair of jeans. Finding the fit, shape and colour that suits you best can be a life-long quest. When you do find those goldilocks hoops – not too big, not too small, not too heavy, not too light, but juuuust right – it’s a revelation for your wardrobe. The right pair of hoops can elevate any outfit, which is why my Chubbies have barely left my ears since I bought them.

The thick gold hoops are the design genius of Ella Drake, the founder of (recently B Crop certified) jewellery brand Monarc Jewellery. Subtle and incredibly adaptable, I’ve worn them to the gym, fancy events and everywhere in between.
At 20 millimetres wide, they are a little larger than your average sleeper without veering into full Jennifer Lopez hoop territory. This makes them perfect for everyday wear, adding just the right amount of refined sparkle without being showy. The earrings are so comfortable that I often forget they are there, another mark of masterful design.
After wearing these hoops non-stop since November, I can honestly say they are one of the most versatile items I've ever owned. Here’s how I style my Chubbies:
For work days that slide straight into dinners, I wear my hoops with a silk top and Arnsdorf’s Relaxed Trousers (actually the best pants ever made). When the occasion strikes, I wear the full matching blue Arnsdorf suit, which pairs so beautifully with gold.
On weekends, I style the hoops with Fredric’s strapless black Bella Dress for a dinner party look that is impossible not to feel super sleek in. Or I dress them down for a day at the beach with a linen two-piece from UNIKSPACE – pairing the Byron Shirt or June Shirt with my Cooper Shorts.
