Born from a deep love of, and appreciation for, the sea, Patémar is a men’s swimwear brand whose Latin-derived name translates to ‘steward of the ocean’. Founder Rudy Hertanto – a former member of Indonesia’s swim team – was diving in the Komodo Islands when the idea for the label came to him. Struck by the juxtaposition between the beauty of the reef and the ugliness of the many plastic bags floating through it, Hertanto set out to tackle the issue of ocean plastic and Patémar was born. Handmade in Bali by skilled craftspeople and tailors, each pair of swim trunks is made entirely from 100% recycled plastic that has been diverted from oceans and landfill.
