I capitalise on the motivation that only the turn of a new year can bring and the luxury of time I normally don’t have to, if I’m honest, aimlessly scroll the internet.
One of these sessions led to a lengthy browse of Louis Vuitton's Fall 2022 Ready-To-Wear runway, which in turn led to a small but significant style epiphany. This year, I’m going to wear more ties.
Hoyeon Jung (of Squid Game fame) opened the Fall 2022 Louis Vuitton show in a floral silk number, reigniting my passion for ties. She joined a league of female celebrities who have challenged gender norms to embrace (and pull off) this masculine accessory, including Zendaya, Julia Roberts and Princess Diana.
Being forced to wear a horrid polyester tie as part of my school uniform meant my initial relationship with this sartorial item was strained. But once I got out into the world and saw women sporting stunning Kenzo silk ties in the office, a love affair began. I’ve worked them into my wardrobe repertoire over the years and now, thanks to Louis Vuitton and my new year back-to-work mindset, I’m ready to embrace them again with full force.

The combination of more relaxed work attire and remote working conditions has undoubtedly rendered ties redundant for a certain segment of the population. But if you’re anything like me, this is the perfect excuse to take a trip to your local op shop and repurpose someone’s discarded corporate collection. I recently visited my favourite and ever-faithful op shop in Paddington, St Vincent de Paul, and am now the proud owner of five beautiful new silk ties. In turn, I’m stepping into 2023 with a reinvigorated wardrobe and a fresh style. I hope this inspires you to begin the new year doing the same.
