Inspired By Coachella? 11 Festival Fashion Looks That You'll Actually Wear Again

After two years of lockdowns, California-based music and arts festival Coachella made its triumphant return this year, confirming festival fashion is officially back.

Our internet feeds are once again awash with micro tops, reflective fabric, Euphoria-inspired makeup and tanned midriffs (get it girls!), and we’ll be the first to admit we are kind of living for it. After a long hibernation and more trackpants than we’d care to mention, we’re all craving some good old-fashioned fun. And festival dressing, with its bold colour palette and bolder accessories, certainly delivers.

While modern festival fashion isn’t without criticism (think excessive glitter and plastic accessories), historically, these events cultivate a lot of sartorial positivity. Spurred by the anti-establishment movements of the 60s and 70s, early festival looks capture all the things we love about fashion: self-expression, creativity and unbridled weirdness.

Events like Coachella continue this legacy by providing opportunities to break out of our self-imposed style bubbles and really live the fantasy. See Conan Gray’s masterclass in dopamine dressing with an almost head-to-toe hot pink Valentino look this year, or Doja Cat’s Matrix-esque futuristic Ottolinger 'fit.

Looking further back, there are many other cultural touchpoints that prove festivals can be synonymous with style. Take Sade performing in a bejewelled black bolero, backless white turtleneck and thick gold hoops at Live Aid in 1985 or any one of Alexa Chung’s practical Glastonbury looks.
